A LADY IN THE HOUSE OF DEODARA.
HERE COMES THE MIA CHAIR.
The chair is part of our everyday lives: we find it at home, in the garden, at the office, and in public spaces. It’s an object that has always been explored and reimagined in terms of form and material. The name gives identity to the object that bears it, and Mia was born from an internal need at Deodara—for new seating for one of our team members. Simplicity and contemporaneity were the two key requirements. The result is a chair with a backrest panel made from cross-cut oak or Italian walnut veneer, showcasing the wood’s circular grain. This particular cut has a unique charm because each tree trunk is one of a kind; small cracks are almost inevitable due to the nature of the material, which led us to intentionally highlight the wood filler in a contrasting tone. This design choice is an integral part of the project.

Mia in oak is available in both a darker and a whitewashed finish. The more or less pronounced contrast between the wood tone and the powder-coated metal frame defines the character of the seat.
Light oak paired with London Mist or Summer Hay shades creates a sober and modern object. The dark gray frame and wood are a clear nod to the industrial style, which also includes the Tomato Juice version—where Mia gains a vibrant personality.

Just as the wood filler is openly revealed, so too are the welds of the metal parts left deliberately visible.
The sled base, born in the 1920s with the first steel tubes introduced to the design world, was chosen for the stability it lends to the overall structure.
On the back, the slight divergence between backrest and legs creates a subtle tilt; this movement evokes the image of a cube opening up to reveal its sides—upon which rests the wooden “sheet” that forms the seat.
The Mia chair reflects a value we at Deodara hold dear: loving the material we work with means not disguising it artificially, in order to remain true to its essence.
